Baja Gold is an unrefined sea salt that preserves the valuable trace minerals of the ocean. Our natural creation process retains slightly more moisture than traditional table salt. Because of this, Baja Gold is best seasoned by the pinch, vs. a shaker or grinder. We offer two grain sizes:

Fine: A smaller grain size. Milled to a flour-like texture. Perfect for daily kitchen use, including seasoning, sautéing, and baking. Fastest to liquify.

Natural Grain Crystals: A medium grain size, most similar to traditional salt crystals. Perfect for finishing dishes before serving, pickling, or for a salt crust on meat or fish.

Pack size: 4 × 454 g (1816 g total). Each 454 g bag contains 300+ servings.

How to Use

Baja Gold is the perfect replacement for standard table salt or refined sea salt. Use it wherever salt is called for. Experiment with Baja Gold in your kitchen today and be sure to share your culinary creations with us at info@saltco.uk.

Baja Gold is an unrefined sea salt that preserves the valuable trace minerals of the ocean. Our natural creation process retains slightly more moisture than traditional table salt. This can make standard saltshaker use difficult. In these cases, we recommend seasoning by hand.

We have also heard from customers that adding some rice grains to their saltshaker (with the Baja Gold) may help. You can also consider a very low-heat 'bake' of the salt to try and reduce the moisture slightly. This would be about 15–20 minutes at approximately 95°C.

Lastly, some customers have reported using a Parmesan Cheese shaker – the larger holes seem to work well for Baja! 😊

If you prefer to remove your Baja Gold from its original packaging, we recommend storing in a glass, wooden, or plastic container that is air-tight (as best possible). Please do not store in metal containers. Please keep within a stable temperature and humidity environment.

Keeping Baja Gold within a salt cellar on your stovetop or kitchen table works perfectly well.

Enjoy!

Common questions

What’s the difference between fine grind and natural grain salt?

They’re the same mineral sea salt, just different textures. Fine grind grain dissolves faster and is better for recipes that require precise measurements or smooth blending. Natural grain is a more coarse salt that’s great for marinating or finishing dishes.

Why is Baja Gold sea salt moist?

Baja Gold is sun-dried and unprocessed, so it naturally retains a touch of moisture. That moisture helps preserve trace minerals and indicates the salt hasn’t been stripped or chemically altered.

Does it taste different from regular table salt?

Yes. Regular salt (sodium chloride) has a flat, bitter flavour. Baja Gold’s mineral-rich profile creates a deeper, more balanced flavour that complements any meal.

Where does Baja Gold come from?

Our salt is harvested in the Sea of Cortez in Baja California using sustainable methods that preserve its mineral content.

Is this good for people watching sodium intake?

Baja Gold contains less sodium per gram than most table salts and delivers essential minerals that support hydration and wellness. Always consult your healthcare professional when introducing something new to your diet.

Natural Grain Sea Salt

Baja Gold Natural Grain is a coarser sea salt with full crystals, a naturally moist texture and a satisfying crunch. The larger grains are easy to pinch and sprinkle by hand, making them a versatile finishing salt for your favourite dishes.

Good for:

  • Seasoning meat before grilling
  • Finishing roasted vegetables
  • Preparing salt crusts and rubs
  • Adding a little crunch to salads and bakes

Moisture Content & Quality

Baja Gold’s Natural Grain sea salt contains a small amount of natural moisture. That’s because it is dried under the sun, not in kilns, without chemical processing that strips away natural mineral content.

This slight moisture signals mineral density. It’s also what gives Baja Gold its full, delicious flavour. While the moisture may cause clumping in traditional salt shakers or grinders, we recommend seasoning ‘by the pinch’ from a traditional salt cellar.

What you’re getting is real, unrefined salt, just as nature intended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Baja Gold different from other sea salts?
Baja Gold is an unrefined mineral sea salt, naturally harvested from the Sea of Cortez and dried by the sun. It retains naturally occurring minerals, including magnesium, potassium and calcium, along with a gently moist texture. There are no additives or anti-caking agents – just sea salt with plenty of character for everyday cooking.
Should I choose Fine Grind or Natural Grain?
Choose Fine Grind for everyday cooking, baking and seasoning. Choose Natural Grain for a satisfying finishing crunch on salads, vegetables, meat and fish. Both are the same unrefined Baja Gold mineral sea salt, with a different texture to suit the way you cook.
Can I use Baja Gold in my everyday recipes?
Absolutely. Use it wherever you would normally use salt – from family meals and baking to a finishing sprinkle at the table. Start with a small pinch and season to taste. Its natural moisture makes seasoning by hand a handy choice, especially with Natural Grain.
Why is Baja Gold slightly moist, and why can it clump?
A gently moist texture and occasional clumps are normal for this sun-dried, unrefined salt. With no anti-caking agents, the grains can stick together as they absorb moisture from the air. Break up small clumps by hand and store your salt in a covered glass, wooden or food-safe plastic container.
Where can I see the mineral analysis and testing results?
Baja Gold is routinely tested by independent, third-party laboratories. Visit The Mineral Lab to explore the published mineral analysis and laboratory reports, so you can take a closer look at what is in your salt.
